Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Dan H — 30 Nov 2011
Let the exploitation begin! Drive Angry is a blast to watch, considering you are watching to laugh and be entertained. And laugh you will as long as you have a pulse, because the film demands that you laugh along with it as it takes you through a time traveling journey back to the heyday of grind house flicks.
Though the acting is not the highlight of this trip, William Fichtner gives one hell of a performance as The accountant, Satan's right hand man, and you can tell he enjoys every line that his character utters.
Amber Heard is beautiful and formidable, and Nicolas Cage is not demanded to do much more than show up and look badass. It's gory. It's fast. It's sexual(Cage's character takes out an entire gang of occultists while still engaged in sexual intercouse in one scene!).
And It's a downright hedonistic blast of euphoria and thrills. Something about it makes you want to start it all over again once it is finished, and show it off to all your buddies just to see their reaction to it.
the art style and cinematography are kick ass as well, and I particularly fell in love with the beginning and ending visions of hell. And I didn't even get to see it on the big screen in 3D(which I heard it is a movie that utilizes the gimmicky new technique fantastically).
I give Drive angry 4/5 Stars for what it is. Will it win an oscar or go down in history as a great work of art. Hell No! Was it a blast to watch and probably even more of a blast to make? I Bet.
