Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Liam C — 31 Mar 2013
Drive Angry is something from another planet. It was made for teenage boys and did it cater to that audience? Most definitely. I found it absurdly entertaining. As soon as the film starts it sets the tone for what the film is- crazy, loud and the story they wanted to tell.
When it started I was expecting the worse because the script seemed really weak, but it changed. The cast was beautifully chosen. I felt Nicolas Cage captured Milton perfectly by being subtle and cold while also adding humour and arrogance where needed, and it worked very well. Amber Heard as Piper was a marvellous choice, she is a very confident character and she has a lot of traits that make her likeable, I dare say, she is one of my favourite female characters in a film- she's that good. Billy Burke as Jonah was great, he embraced Jonah's characteristics and was the character. William Fitchner as The Accountant is where the movie shines it's brightest. He is a confident, smug and a witty character, whenever he is on screen something fantastic is about to come with it. Never in a film have I liked all the cast this much.
The film is a treat to look at, for a low budget they did it justice; the film is also at a brisk pace so when the action stops and characters talk, it never looses its way and remains entertaining all the way up to its explosive ending. Highly recommend for viewing if you're in the mood for some shenanigans and not your serious films.
