Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Matty C — 11 Jun 2013
Cage autopilots through a Crank-lite action flick, resplendent with Southern scum, slutty waitresses, satanists and Amber Heard. There's some fun set pieces (although a sex scene shoot out falls flat, especially compared to the equally batshit crazy Shoot 'Em Up's effort) and exploitation style violence, but the best scenes belong to William Fichtner who appears to be having a lot of fun.
Atrocious dialogue, Grindhouse absurdity and a self awareness of its purpose make Drive Angry an entertaining if utterly dumb watch. It's not going to be in many collections or rewatched too often, but a late night discovery on TV would make this a rewarding experience if you like mindless b-movies, and sometimes I do.
