Review of Drive Angry (2011) by Chris L — 25 Oct 2012
Drive Angry pretty much sums it up along with the intelligence. Nicholas Cage happily stars as Milton, a driver who goes on a cross country road trip to stop Jonah (Billy Burke) an evil man and leader of a cult that murdered her daughter and kidnapped her child.
Amber Heard appears as Piper, a tough tooth nails girl that joins Milton on a road rage rampage across America. They get into all kinds of scrap, shootouts, and offensively over the top violence (think Death Wish IV!) Along way on their road trip, a mysterious man in black, identified as the Accountant (William Fichtner), pursues them with reason unknown.
Will Milton save his child or will he crash and burn? Drive Angry is an exercise in road rage, and gratuitous violence and nudity. It takes every decent sense we humans have and smashes it will all might.
This film is meant as an exploitation film written by Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier who have worked on My Bloody Valentine (2007), so you can tell it is going to be over the top. I said this film is offensive to the sense and it really is.
It is jaw dropping awfully bad in a good way, and it is just not one scene. You will never think of a song from Cool and the Gang the same way or give a new meaning to sex and violence. I honestly believe this movie should not be sold in store, but be in the trash because that is what this movie really is or in a sleazy porno store.
I do not hate this film, but love it. Nic is great here and so is the sexy and beautiful Amber Heard, but it is Fichtner that steals the film as the Accountant. He is very amusing to watch as he goes around telling people facts, futures, and busting myths while creating all kinds of trouble and getting out of all kinds of stupidity.
The most jaw dropping of them is when calmly walks out of a big rig flipping over. Drive Angry is mayhem and vile at its best. The rating may be low, but it is cheerful low rating.
