Review of Drive (2011) by Spike V — 25 Jan 2014
This is an interesting movie, in my opinion, more interesting than it is actually good. Not that I hated it, but I think it's full potential didn't materialize, and some ideas worked against it, like the painfully slow rhythm -ironic considering the film's name is Drive-. I felt like I was watching Blue Valentine all over again. Also, as it seems to be a trend, "subtext" was abused in this one. Ideas that open tend to spill more than materialize concepts.
Cranston's acting, Gosling's silent demeanor and Pearlman's intensity were. I never thought I'd say this, though, Christina Hendricks was a severe miscast . The plot and script was intriguing, specially at the beginning, but in no way solid.
I also couldn't stand the hipster neo-eighties soundtrack, I think it took away some of the power of the film as well.
