Review of Drive (2011) by Good Looking R — 21 Sep 2013
Drive directed by Nicolas Winding Refn is a decent art-action movie NOT great.
Drive is a story of mysterious Hollywood stuntman, mechanic and getaway driver who lands himself in trouble when he helps out his neighbor.
Well, I loved the intense character of Driver played by Ryan Gosling. Speaking only when necessary, with tension and fury in his eyes.Carey Mulligan is decent in the role of Irene. Chemistry between the two leads is good.
I love violence and this film has good chunk of violence in it . Also, music is very good BUT this film is filled with many small flaws. Refn's direction is disappointing.
One major flaw I found in this film is that director didn't developed the character of Bernie Rose(Albert Brooks) like the other characters.(He's a local gangster, right? He doesn't even have a gang !) *Spoiler* Because of that in the climax his character looked dumb. In that final scene, Rose didn't even brought one man with him/secretly to protect him from the driver, why? because he wanted to kill the driver? because he thought driver can't kill him? dumb. He knew that , driver is a dangerous person & driver can kill him too. Driver killed Nino & he could kill Rose too. Rose was supposed to be a gangster not some kind of one man army . He doesn't even have his own fuckin gang ! If he thought that driver can't kill him then He could've hired someone to kill the driver after getting the money. Why he risked his life? This scene showed unintelligent direction of Nicolas Winding Refn.
Overall, Drive could've been much much better.
