Review of Drive (2011) by Lloyd Y — 09 Jan 2014
Flawless. A triumph in acting, directing, and style. It is a masterpiece. It's a film that stays with you for days after the credits roll. It contains a subtlety and style that I was not expecting.
It showed me that the Hollywood version of this film would have been just a forgettable action movie with terrible acting and no convincing character development. But thanks to director Nicolas Winding Refn's choice to development characters by emotions, and facial expressions, he allows his characters to think, and speak realistically, instead of having them say cliche dialogue that people in real life would never say.
The action is stellar, the violence is shocking and gets under your skin, and the score is terrific. Artistically challenged people, steer clear from this one, because you just won't understand.
