Review of Drive (2011) by Jim F — 04 Jul 2015
A tense, savage movie. A brutal getaway driver explores his humanity while wrestling with his true nature (how ironic his mask was sort of a happy character). Excellent cinematography, writing, directing and soundtrack.
Ryan Gosling is stellar as a smoldering sociopath, at times sensitive, at others "jason-esque". Albert Brooks excels in an unusual role as a ruthlessly intelligent cold blooded killer with a straight razor fetish.
Hard to knock anything about this movie, although I thought the final tune could have been better. I'll rate this one as a solid 4, although time will tell if it edges into the 4.5 to 5 star range.
