Review of Drinking Buddies (2013) by Brett H — 20 Jul 2014
A charming indie romance that is completely held together by the pitch-perfect chemistry between Olivia Wilde and Jake Johnson. There isn't much to the story as it falls into the "mumblecore" genre where there is mostly improv to create a natural flow; but there is enough going on with the characters to hold interest.
It's a tad mis-marketed as a "comedy", when it's actually a realistic story about adults and their relationships; without much to chuckle about. It's not a very impacting film and you'll really only remember it for the fact that Olivia Wilde's character drinks beers daily, and still is shaped like a twig!
