Review of Drinking Buddies (2013) by Lane Z — 14 Nov 2013
Olivia Wilde might be the coolest chick ever and Jake Johnson might be the coolest dude ever. I read a story about how Johnson said they actually drank beer during certain takes while filming, and literally EVERY scene had a beer in it.
Ridiculous. It probably might be the best non-action movie to film. It's a movie built around the relationship of Wilde and Johnson's characters. It's supposed to be a situational comedy based on real life, but there's also some drama in it.
Anna Kendrick (wonderful) and Ron Livingston are nice side characters. Also good to see Jason Sudeikis make an appearance in his wife's film. The great thing about the film is it builds some good tension throughout between Wilde and Johnson leading to a will he won't he, but I thought the end played it just a little safe.
More of a history between the two would have been nice to make the ending make more sense, but that's being a tad picky. Good cast. Great laughs. And it involves beer. Lots of beer.
