Ridiculous and genius. De Palma is such a virtuoso and showman. Who else could rip off Hitchcock and still be such an original? The themes are Hitchcockian - sexual shame is all over the place - in the celebrated museum sequence, in the self-hating opening shower scene, and the repeated punishment of Angie Dickinson.

But what sets De Palma apart is the breathtaking camera work. It's impossible not to be impressed by his total control of what we see and his ability to convey so many different emotions and themes in a single shot.
