Review of Dressed to Kill (1980) by Sidney S — 02 Sep 2013
Brian DePalma once again pulls off another controversial film that pushes the limits of the rating system. From the opening "dream" scene all the way to the film's bizarre ending Dressed To Kill is an in depth psychological thriller.
This thriller is controversial in nature from the intense sexual themes of a psychopathic killer who believes he is a woman. Killing patients and those connected to a psychiatrist Robert Elliot played by Michael Caine. Caine is a great actor and is very well chosen for this role and truly delves into his character's psyche but also puts on the cloak to cover his true colours.
DePalma's direction is smooth however despite the first murder in the elevator at times being noticeably fake. The film is very disturbing but its a psycho-thriller that influenced an entire genre, and one that will leave an impact. Despite its slow start Dressed to Kill is for sure worth a watch. Lastly, the mental hospital sequence is one of the creepiest and most disturbing film scenes I've ever seen!
