Review of Dredd (2012) by Alex G — 05 Dec 2013
This movie turned out way better than anyone's expectations. I loved the very realistic-looking, gritty 80's-like Sci-fi atmosphere. I believe it has a lot to do with the time the graphic novels were created.
It's not over the top with the atmosphere, but more subtle than you might expect (in all the right ways, mind you). Judge Dredd is a man very set in his ways and takes his job more seriously than other judges, but just like in the prequel, a few very well reasoned points come across him about his ways.
All the while, Dredd deals with some of the most dangerous, gruesome, violent criminals that anyone working in Criminal Justice could expect with only his armor, his light but high-tech loadout of weapons, his wit, his companion and the duty to uphold his sworn oath to judge.
