Review of Dredd (2012) by Lewis E — 20 Jun 2015
Only ever saw glimpses of Sylvester Stallone's 1995 'Judge Dredd' but from what I did see and the vast reviews in consensus, I can safely make the conclusion that this modern remake reigns supreme over the original by a long shot.
Great graphic depiction of a futuristic dystopian world with nice slow-motion and special visual effects that accentuates every fragment of action, making it appealing to the eyes. Karl Urban is comfortable as the ruthless judge and I reckon they had his unique jaw in mind when picturing the character. Bares an uncanny resemblance to 'The Raid' in being placed in a building block with Dredd and his rookie assignment having to work themselves up the levels. This works in its favour by offering a fantastic close quarter intense setting, even though it can't be awarded for originality.
