Review of Dredd (2012) by Tony G — 15 Jan 2016
Exciting, thrill pumping, action.
This movie was awesome, Karl Urban was great as Dredd, they don't show his face so he had this Master Chief type vibe to him, Dredd's sidekick in this is also awesome, she gets captured near the end and you think that Dredd will run in and save her. NOPE! She escapes kills a bunch of dudes and saves Dredd's ass. Take that internet. The action is amazing, they made a story based reason for the slo-mo shots in here, there is a drug called slo-mo and if you take it, you'll be tripping balls and think you're in slo-mo, but it's just you, and the slo-mo action is great, like when Dredd shoots someone the slo-mo will show the bullet slowly explode the guy's head. This movie is brutal, no holding hands in this, the first 5 minutes set the tone for the entire film, and it's great.
The villain wasn't that spectacular, she was hinted at being this big baddie, but I didn't see her actually kill anyone really, so it's like the kid on the playground that says he's beat you up at a certain time and when you agree to fight him, he backs down because he didn't think you would actually do it. The villain is like that. Though, there is one guy that's totally afraid of her, she gave him robot eyes and tortured him to do her bidding, that's probably what everyone meant about her being great and I can see that, but the ending is what I said, Kid. Playground.
It hints at a possible sequel, and I surely hope they make it, because I can't get enough of post apocalypse movies, though it would be nice to see more of the landscape in them. This movie didn't make a lot in the theaters, that's because the trailers made this movie look like generic balls, so support this movie, get it on Blu-ray, maybe soon they'll make their money back and we'll get a sequel.
