Review of Dredd (2012) by Edgar C — 05 Oct 2013
I am being slightly generous towards Dredd because I have a soft spot for futuristic films either approaching or treating the cyberpunk genre. Nevertheless, the unexplored visual and thematic possibilities left me longing for the sci-fi cult films of the 80s, beginning with Carpenter's notorious badass cult classic. A rather funny thought crossed my mind too: this would have been a terrific idea for an anime feature. Thank God for the R-rating, but still, the only thing people will be remembering about Dredd 10 years from now are the "slow-mo" sequences which certainly provided interesting moments if not something random to be included in an average action film with clichés to keep the plot moving.
59/100.
