Review of Dredd (2012) by Tristan M — 28 Dec 2014
When I decided to watch this movie I really didn't have too high of hopes. But man, this was a good movie! It has a sort of low budget feel, mainly because of unfinished special effects and CGI. The script isn't great, but the acting is, although I'm still wondering about Dredds constant frown.
The plot is basic, trapped in a skyscraper with hundreds of gang members trying to kill them, and it makes for a action filled fast paced movie. Good fasted paced battle scenes, over the top mabey, but its meant to be this action hero type.
Its plentiful when it comes to blood, and is extremely gory. It's not original, as its a remake of the older Judge Dresd starring Sylvester Stallone (which I haven't yet seen) but I don't think focuses on the same plot.
The second half was defiantly better than the first in my opinion, with there being less mind reading as well of the other Judges showing up to kill them. The slow motion explosions and falling scenes were cool too.
Only thing I wish wasn't there was the weird mind reading girl, which made no sense to the have in the first place and didnt have any place of being in the film at all. If she wasn't there eveything could have gone the same way, and her being there just brings down my rating, as does the being in side her head.
But in the end it's a good movie, exciting, and for those of us who enjoy watching a heroic action hero movie without all the powers and out of this world abilities.
