Review of Dreamscape (1984) by Al M — 18 Feb 2011
Christopher Nolan admits that Satoshi Kon's anime masterpiece was one of his inspirations for Inception, but before either of those films there was Dreamscape, a somewhat b-level 80s film about psychics who can enter the dreams of others.
Dreamscape remains campy like the bulk of 80s sci-fi, but its superb cast (Dennis Quaid, Max von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, Kate Capshaw, and Eddie Albert) together with its intriguing plot mark it as a standout of the genre that attempts to explore real psychological phenomena.
The film blends elements of The Dead Zone and Altered States together with its own original ideas to create a heady--if cheesy--film that will delight and intrigue fans of science fiction cinema.
