Review of Dreamscape (1984) by Bradley T — 22 Jul 2010
Dreamscape (1984) -- [4.0] -- Despite a worthy cast that includes Dennis Quaid, Max von Sydow, and Christopher Plummer, "Dreamscape" never hits its stride. Without a strong through-line, the movie is largely inert, wasting too much time on miscellaneous dream-adventures and tangential subplots (including an oh-so ho-hum romance).
The climax, where Quaid enters the president's dream to help him combat a 'dream assassin,' lacks pizzazz. There's a nice dream seduction between Quaid and Kate Capshaw, and David Patrick Kelly plays a nice villain, but there's otherwise little to recommend in this ambitious, scattershot fantasy.
