Here are my short and sweet capsule reviews for these movies: .

Layer Cake:.

I liked this movie but it didn't really blow me away. Being a longtime fan of Colm Meaney for his Star Trek work it was a refreshing change of pace to see him playing a dark role. I liked the dialogue and the pacing, the hip gangster story was fun alright, and the ending got me to jump but all in all it was just okay. .

Saddest Music in the World: .

My friend has been bugging my little group to see this movie every single time we go into Blockbuster so I finally broke down and rented the thing. It's definitely a strange movie and although I was the least impressed of my group I still liked it overall. I can't describe the plot though for fear of ruining the experience for the viewer. Expectations are irrelevant, the movie will sunder them all like so much beer foam. Visually the film is an absolute treat and I was rocking out on the retro feel as much as anything else. The Saddest Music in the World has definitely improved for me with more reflection and I do recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind a bit o'wierdness. .

Dreamscape: .

The idea that people can enter dreams to help people as well as to murder them is an interesting idea though I do confess I thought it was rather silly when I read the description. The movie is fun overall but not impressive, the story does not live up to the potential of the idea and I have to admit I found a particular scene disturbing from a feminist point of view but it wasn't a bad movie for a weeknight. .

.

City Lights:.

I don't know what to say about this gem that hasn't been said before so I won't try. The exploits of the Tramp as he tries to help a kind blind flower girl enchanted me. I found my eyes moistened with laughter and "awwwww" feelings in fairly equal proportions and I just loved the movie experience. See this movie, people! .
