Good soundtrack but awful, cliched plot which goes nowhere fast. Flat characterisation with only Jennifer Hudson emerging from this train wreck of a film with a hint of respectability (and an Oscar). If you want to know what real Rythmn and Blues is (not the hackneyed tripe that now passes for so-called "Rn'B"), just watch the first half an hour before the story descends into utter bollocks.
