Review of Dreamgirls (2006) by Adrian B — 13 Jun 2010
There are some interesting points to this film. The acting, I thought was good; the songs are good; and the albums showing the Dreamgirls which were originally albums of the Supremes are so cool. The way they work themselves into the album cover is pretty neat.
I also liked the small clip of Ed Sullivan, since the Supremes had a strong presence on that show. What I did not care of this film is the differences from what the Supremes biography is. Particularly, the Jennifer Hudson character who is equivalent to Supreme Florence Ballard.
She re-unites with Beyonce's character, equivalent to Diana Ross at the end. This is not how it originally went. Florence Ballard died in 1976 of a alcohal induced heart attack and the two never re-united.
In addition, their manager, whom I assume was equivalent to Berry Gordy, kills himself. I found that was a little bizarre, especially considering Berry Gordy is still alive. Okay film.
