Starts well enough, and Eddie Murphy shows actual acting talent in this, but the problem is the music itself. The group start out singing some great motown stuff but then in order to become known in the pop charts, change to pop.
All well and good, but then the "musical" sections of this film are done in the same "black-wail-pop", which is massive hypocrisy. Plus, when Hudson takes the sidelines and Knowles takes the front, the entire film slips as Hudson is a far better actress/character.
