Review of Dreamgirls (2006) by Jessica N — 21 Nov 2009
I can totally understand why Eddie Murphy got a bit upset at receiving only an Oscar nomination for his role as James Earl in thus film! Darn it! I didn't realise he could, like, really act, sing and entertain without comedy.
Beyonce is perfect as "Diana" and I can totally appreciate Jennifer Hudson recieving an Oscar fir her role as Iffy White. Her rendition of "I'm gonna love you" even taken out of context, gives a raw and spine tingling performance causing any person who has ever had to fight for their partner to shudder in empathy at what this woman is going through as she struggles to stick my her man, even though he has NEVER, let's face it, been true to her. We've all been there. The One, is suddenly, quite surprisingly and absolutely, the biggest b'stard in the history of mankind.
I found myself more interested in the story of James Earl and Iffy White, the people who struggle in life to get anything whilst Beyonce embodied perfectly those who are blessed and born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
It gets a five because not only will I watch it again but I need to own this film!
