Review of Dreamgirls (2006) by Iwan D — 13 Dec 2013
I can't understand how anyone couldn't like this film. The music in it is second to none for a start, there are many, many songs that stand out even outside the film. Everyone gives brilliant performances, and the personal highlights for me are Jennifer Hudson's Effie and Eddie Murphy's Jimmy "Thunder" Early.
These marvellous performances by a stellar cast, and superb musical numbers (accompanied by some excellent choreography) really captures the time and it's music scene. It plays with the viewer's emotions throughout, by putting an incredibly big grin on your face but also bringing a tear to your eye.
A glourious stage-to-film adaptation that stands out from the rest as being, a slickly-directed, grooving flick.
