Review of Dreamcatcher (2003) by Sierra P — 06 Jul 2011
I adore horror films set in the snow, but Dreamcatcher proves to be a fundamentally terrible film. I have not read this particular Stephen King novel, but its cinematic adaptation truly sucks for a variety of reasons, some of which are obviously King's fault.
Dreamcatcher features a somewhat promising set-up--a group of childhood friends reunite at a cabin during winter when bizarre occurrences being to occur around them. Unfortunately, the film's set-up bears an uncanny resemblance to the set-up of Stephen King's classic IT where adults are trying to deal with the paranormal experiences of their childhood.
But this is forgivable. What is not forgivable is the more than two hour crapfest that attempts to create horror from alien invasion but instead just produces one cheesy moment after another. A film that makes even Morgan Freeman look terrible, Dreamcatcher is a true piece of garbage.
Here's a hint, if flatulence is a major plot point in your alien horror story, you might want to reconsider things.....
