Review of Dreamcatcher (2003) by Mike T — 06 May 2010
It seems to be the unanimous opinion that this is an awful movie. I've read it all over the Internet, from critics and moviegoers alike. Well, I beg to differ from that opinion. On a second viewing, I enjoyed Dreamcatcher even more than I did the first time.
As a big fan of the novel, I am very pleased with the way William Goldman's screenplay captures the essence of the material. Stephen King's quirky trademark dialogue takes precedence and all the startling oddness of the story is there as well.
The cast is uniformly solid, with standout work from Jason Lee and Damian Lewis. Lawrence Kasdan's direction is vivid and exciting, filling the screen with memorable images and concepts. I think this is a faithful, entertaining adaptation of an equally bizarre novel.
