Review of Dreamcatcher (2003) by Bill B — 18 Oct 2010
Okay, I'm upgrading my score on this one slightly, but it;s still not a very good film, which is a shame, given the talent involved.
There's just certain elements of King's writing that doesn't translate into a visual medium, particularly the bits that are meant to symbolize the 'possession' of one of the leads by an alien consciousness. What works well in the theater of the mind doesn't work onscreen, and then you've got the issue of the film being at least 15 minutes longer than it needs to be.
Might be okay for fans, but it's still a heavily flawed endeavor.
