Review of Dreamcatcher (2003) by Mariam B — 19 Jul 2011
Dreamcatcher is a movie based off a Stephen King novel of the same name. 4 men each have a special ability, and they also have the ability to communicate with each other without talking as long as they are within a certain range.
These 4 men have been friends since childhood, one day when they were children they came across these 3 older kids bullying a kid who appears to be mentally challenged. The 4 childhood friends save this kid from the bullies and befriend this young boy. As time goes on they can tell this new found friend has special abilities, one day he bestows this gift among the 4 friends. One day the new friend dies in a car accident and every year the friends go to this cabin in the mountains. Once in the mountains, that is when the meat of the story takes place.
I felt the movie was too long, it was 2 hours and 20 minutes, and if it was a good movie I could handle a movie that length. The acting was good, most of the actors are well known like Morgan Freeman and Jason Lee, or they have played lead characters like Thomas Jane and Timothy Oliphant. My problem was the story, it was not enjoyable to me, everything else but the story was fine.
