A young orchestra director is taken by his girlfriend to meet her grandma for the first time. Grandma is a see-er. She tells her grand-daughter. "You must leave him. He does not belong to you. He is from the Qing Dynasty and belongs to that other woman.." Just shortly before that visit, he actually started having visions of a young woman in ancient China dancing to a haunting tune.. Soon, he meets the same woman as a modern woman in H.K. She has been having visions of him in Ancient China and of the relationship they have had. They are drawn to each other, it seems - by incredible force.

I like films about reincarnation, and this very lyrical film drew me in, with the beautiful scenery and haunting music. Chow Yun-fat as the man, and Brigitte Lin as the ancient and re-incarnated lover are electrifying.. The director, Tony Au's has had worked before as as an art director in films (and won awards for it). This background shines through in this movie.

This film is not for everyone. The pace is rather slow, revealing bits and pieces of the love that had been 2000 years ago... Can love be so strong, that two people reincarnate and find each other 2000 years later, having the same feelings for each other?
