Review of Dream House (2011) by Wyatt C — 25 Nov 2012
While it may sound good on paper, "Dream House" plays out as a rather generic horror film that lacks even the cheap shock and awe common in today's cinema to keep the energy going. The film feels much longer than it actually is as a result.
The film makers place all their faith in the disorienting twist that occurs as the film's climax, but, placed at the halfway point, it does little more than slow down the action and create an unfulfilling two-films-in-one feel (although, it does slightly justify the completely idiotic chain of events that makes up the first half).
Overall, "Dream House" comes off as a self-serious film that seems not to notice just how formulaic and ridiculous it really is.
