Review of Dream Home (2010) by Andrew S — 20 Nov 2010
This film is being sold, quite misleadingly, as some kind of hilarious satire, and I think some people might be a little put out upon viewing it. To be honest, it's much more a biting, angry swipe and contains some of the most protracted, brutal killings I've ever seen. The violence is sometimes so extreme (or, in the case of the murder of a pregnant woman, outside of normally acceptable norms) that I wonder if the intention is to take audiences beyond their desensitized limits to emphasize the inhumanity of what's happening.
It's an interesting film. I can't recommend it wholeheartedly, but it does have something to say about greed and how it shapes our society and our individual actions, and I guess that's better than an anonymous man stalking co-eds for the gratification of the MTV crowd.
