Review of DragonHeart (1996) by D M — 27 Feb 2011
I really can't wait for the Blu Ray release of this movie... you could practically see the 0's and 1's on Draco. Dragonheart is a silly movie but it's extremely hard to not like. It's impossible to take seriously, has extraordinarily hammy acting, lots of parts don't make sense or cause unintentional laughter, but it's a popcorn fantasy movie and I enjoyed it.
The scenery is beautiful, Sean Connery has an amazing presence, and even though I laughed a lot, I think it was an homage to the heroic knight B-movies of the 20th century. I can't praise the plot because at times, it feels like an updated Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Even with its plot holes and dopey moments, I liked Dragonheart as a fantasy/comedy with a corny but virtuous message.
