Review of Dragonball Evolution (2009) by Calvin D — 28 Jul 2011
If you take away all your knowledge of the Manga and the Anime and just look at it as a film, it is still really bad. The worst part is this movie could have been half way decent if you added 30 to 45 minutes of footage.
It desperately needed that time for character development and just developing the friendship of Goku,Bulma, and Yamcha. Doing that would actually make the final battle alot more epic. Also Piccolo is only in maybe 20 minutes of the film.
He needed alot more screentime. The only good thing was that the fight scenes were kind of cool but seriously lacking. Chow Yun Fat was the only one who somewhat resembled his character. Emmy Rossum did an ok job as Bulma but needed more character development.
Justin Chatwin did not really resemble Goku at all and if they were going to change him so much than atleast make him interesting. The final battle needed to be longer, Goku's training needed to be longer and overall the movie needed to be longer.
The plot moved way too fast, you went form Goku in High School to fighting Piccolo in one hour. That tells you how short this movie was.
