Review of Dragon Fist (1979) by Gavin P — 09 Jul 2010
I expected a kung fu comedy, but instead got a very interesting Jackie Chan movie.
This was released the same time as his star hit Drunken Master way back in 78. (This page is wrong withteh date... it's 78 on imdb and wiki...).
What makes this early Jackie Chan film start out is the plot.
I'm not joking the plot which at first appeared to be a basic revenge story progressed, as other arcs were introduced as the revenge plot went into other areas including, deception, betrayal & redemption. As other characters intervene with Jackies main goal of revenge. It's kinda spoils it for me to explain, but watch it and u'll be pleasantly surprised by the plot.
Also note there is no comedy Jackie is doing seriously acting nad it's actually pretty gd. It's strange but fresh to see Jackie in a serious role in a decent plot but during his traditional kung fu comedy era.
As for the action, well as it was made during the release of other hits such as snake in eagles shadow and drunken master. U can expect a similar traditional style and artisitc quality to the choreography and it is very well done.
