Review of Drag Me to Hell (2009) by Peter N — 04 Sep 2012
I definitely feel like Sam Raimi is at his best with campy horror flicks. It's not as good as the original Evil Dead series, but it's a step up from his more recent films. The premise has been rehashed from similar stories (e.
G. Stephen King's Thinner), but it's a simple concept that provides Raimi with enough material to do what he does best. The film's strength is in the fact that it never tries to take itself seriously, which makes some of the more frightening sequences even better.
Alison Lohman's character is easy to relate to, and brings a sense of humanity and understanding to the role. It's not a very intelligent film, nor is it very memorable, but it's still campy fun.
