Review of Drag Me to Hell (2009) by Charles R — 05 Aug 2013
Highly recommended for fans of irreverent horror/comedies (which should include everyone, right?). Combining a smart female protagonist (a brilliant cast Alison Lohman who takes a note or two from Jamie Lee Curtis, Naomi Watts, and Sigourney Weaver as a woman who bites the monsters back) and a cheeky, irreverent script, this movie-for-people-who-love-movies will leave you laughing one moment and shocked the next.
Though the FX can be over-the-top in a goofy way, there's enough nightmarish sequences and psychologically fucked-up scenarious to give this twisted morality play (and, as previously mentioned, a fantastic vehicle for Alison Lohman and a suprisingly tolerable Justin Long!.
..never thought I'd say that) 5 big star-shaped popcorn buckets. 5/5 Seriously, this stands to have a much better audience rating... maybe it was the possessed goat slapstick that thew people, but c'mon, this is Sam 'let's throw a slapstick disembodied-hand scene in for good measure' Raimi!
