Review of Drag Me to Hell (2009) by Derrick N — 11 Mar 2014
Sam Raimi finally returns to his horror-comedy after a long departure. This one stars Alison Lohman as an L.A. loan officer who denies a gypsy an extension on her home loan. The gypsy than curses Alison Lohman's character and all things go downhill. The film is really what you would expect from a Raimi horror film. There is cheesiness, comedy, and some disgusting moments. When I first saw the film on T.V. I wasn't familiar with Raimi. I thought the film to be way over-the-top, ridiculous, and corny. A few years later after having seen "The Evil Dead" (which I enjoyed) I realized that is what Raimi intended. I decided to give the film another shot as I knew what to expect, and this film did nothing but entertain me. There were some comedic moments which made me laugh out loud, and Raimi does a perfect job of blending it with suspense. Don't go into this film expecting a serious horror film. Expect to be entertained and maybe catch a few laughs. Definitely worth a watch.
3.3/5.
