Review of Draft Day (2014) by Rob N — 18 Apr 2014

I was really excited for this movie because it's really rare when you get any movie about Cleveland, let alone Cleveland sports teams as part of the plot (even on ESPN, we are rarely talked about unless it's negative).

Unfortunately it didn't completely live up to my expectations, which I admit we're pretty high. It's just that it's not really a sports movie in the traditional sense - a bad team finds a way to beat the odds and win - but of one day (only 12 hrs really) in the off season which kind of makes it anticlimactic, although you will be wondering the entire time which of the three draft prospects Sonny will pick at #1.

It's strange and somewhat surreal how similar this story is to the real Browns offseason this year (a high pick in the draft, pressure to take the exciting young QB, but potential of a veteran QB already on the roster coming off an injury).

I try to imagine watching this as someone who is from somewhere other than Cleveland, and I think I'd pass this off as fine or OK, probably only need to see it once; but as a native Clevelander I'm biased and will boost up the score a bit as it's refreshing to see a historic team like the Browns finally get some attention it deserves but is rarely given.
