Review of Draft Day (2014) by Dj I — 20 Apr 2014
Draft Day is a classic case of could've, would've, & should've. It could've been WAY better, it would've had WAY more credibility & believability had the writers known the subject matter, and the film makers should've known not to insult the intelligence of the millions of NFL fans who would go to see it.
The gf drama. Fine. The personal drama. Fine. I get it, its a movie. But a lot of the football/draft aspects are devoid of reality. Real owners dont act like that. Real GMs dont make deals like that (the guy who did, Ditka, is now considered a buffoon) or "wing it" like Costner does once the draft starts.
There just wasnt enough respect paid to the modern day draft process. I spent half the movie going "why do that?" when I know there are 20 other options out there. They didnt need to dumb it down because the greatness of the draft is its intricacies & complexities.
