Review of Draft Day (2014) by Jim H — 27 Jun 2015
I'm not sure what all the critics were expecting from this. They ripped it up for being a story about football. What did they expect from a movie with the title of "Draft Day"? And they expected it was just going to be about football, and nothing else? It actually decides to blend in drama, and a little bit of romance (even though, in hindsight, it really wasn't necessary, and didn't work).
And really, Ivan Reitman let the people in the movie do what they do best: the actors like Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner and Frank Langella⦠act! And the football players & NFL commentators⦠do what they're supposed to do: be players and commentators! (Have no idea what Puffy Combs was supposed to be doing in there, but whatever it was, he didn't do it.
). In any case, this was a solid if unspectacular movie, but I'm sure quarterbacks will love it. That's how it was built for. Those who came looking for a love story⦠Are still looking, and should be.
They made a mistake walking into the theater. Enjoy it for what it is.
