Costner may not be one of the great actors of his generation but for some reason he seems ideally suited to produce good sports films, and this one, focused on the last 12 hours before the NFL draft pick is no exception.
Its dramatic tension and story arc appealed even to a viewer who had no knowledge of or interest in the arcane world of American football whether on the pitch or behind the scenes.
