Review of Dracula Untold (2014) by Andy G — 07 Feb 2015
So first off, I loved this movie. However I'm a big sucker for B horror and cheesy action so there's that. I'm ALSO a big fan of good horror. For a cheesy action flick with lots of special effects and a protagonist you can get behind.
This did fairly well. For a Dracula film....eeeehhh. Dracula is a classic icon and he was always known for self preservation above all. While he was vastly stronger than a human, he almost always chose subterfuge and stealth.
He pretended to be a normal human, he tried to disguise his feeding as a wasting disease and he often fled when faced with a fight. Dracula would only fight when cornered and a big part of the fear was that should you choose to fight, Dracula was very hard to kill and extremely dangerous.
This movie featured a Dracula that feared no-one. He was capable of (and does) wipe out entire armies single-handedly. He's not a man with the strength and durability of 4 men and a few useful tricks.
He's a walking WMD. All in all, great movie, Loved watching it. But it's not Dracula. It's a medieval X-man with bat-powers fighting an invading army.
