Review of Dracula Untold (2014) by Joshua B — 09 Apr 2015
Dear Dracula Untold,.
While I don't know if I can go as far as to call this a GOOD movie, I can say that this movie was entertaining as heck. While some of the acting could have been stronger and some large cliches were used. I enjoyed what they did with the mythology and that he wasn't a purely evil creature; his reasons for attaining his powers made sense. I also appreciated them how they blended the history of Vlad the Impaler and Dracula/vampire folklore. I'm actually kind of excited to see what happens next, as this film is the start of a shared universe of monster movies (think what Marvel's doing, but with monsters). It had much more in common with a superhero film (albeit medieval) than a horror movie. Take that as an insult or a compliment; the choice is yours.
Also, props to Charles Dance (you kids may know him as Tywin Lannister) for always bringing that extra lil bit of sneery gravitas to the table.
Thank you for a enjoyable after.
Your faithful viewer,.
Josh.
