Review of Dracula Untold (2014) by Dante V — 21 Jan 2017
In the world of action-horror films where it is often difficult to find value beyond teeth, blood, supernatural powers and tight black leather, "Dracula Untold" holds its own, but does little to establish itself as a leader in the genre.
This film often showed some sloppy editing and instances of corny acting, but overall, "Dracula" provides a solid story which borrows actual elements from Vlad Tepes Dracula's real life, and additional story elements which attempted to serve for purposes of enhanced dramatics.
A smidgen formulaic at times, but entertaining nevertheless. It had great action sequences, and special effects. By the end of the film, I was left wanting the story to continue. Dracula however lacked the narrative complexity and originality that would have made it a stand-out film.
This film did not reach its full potential, but was still great fun---the perfect guilty pleasure film for any vampire dork!
