Review of Dracula Untold (2014) by Lebo M — 10 Mar 2015
So I've been out of the movie scene for a while, and I decided it's time to catch up on what's been hot or not on our big screens, browsing through 2014 movies I've realised that I'm more behind than I thought, first movie that sprung in front of me was Dracula oh yeah hurray for vamp lovers and I'm not ashamed to admit that I also fall in that party, come on what movie lover doesn't wanna see what an old classic has for us on this age of techno take over and better yet who doesn't want to know how the classic Dracula started and of cause check out Gary Shore on his feature film debut as it might turn him out to be the next big director in the genre. Back to the point so I decide to start my evening with Dracula so excited that I didn't even have time for pop corns, I was like a little kid waiting to unwrap the candy and lick it all over. Well the start with the narrator explaining how it all begin, the held hostage trained to be a soldier part, I'm not going to touch that cause it made me drift off to the movie 300 thinking how awesome it was, basically I watched the whole movie and at the end trying to figure out what I thought about it made me think of the Ghost rider movie yep the man whose head can turn into a skull on fire, it's like the same movie in different concept, check it out straight to how it all begin:
Dracula.
War starts, no soldiers, he can't fight 1000man alone.
He needs all the strength he can get, he wants to safe his people so he makes a deal with a vampire whose as bad as a devil.
Believes he can control the power, resist the urge of more power, his wife dies, now why resist anymore.
Has only his son left, sacrifices himself so that no one like him may ever exist, sends his son away so he can be better off.
Centuries later is he dead No, still a Vamp Yes, got to the bottom of his Vampness No and looks like he enjoys turning into bats.
Ghost Rider.
His father falls sick and he can't pull his tricks alone.
Want to save his father's life so he sells his sole to the devil himself.
Believes he got the better end to the deal, his father still dies, now why not use the power since he has to pay the piper.
He has only his girlfriend, whom he breaks up with so he can go away and deal with his own demons or better yet hunt down the Devil who created him to make sure he doesn't create more of his kind.
Years later is he dead No, still the skull on fire Yes, dealt with the Devil No, and looks like he enjoys his head being on fire.
That's about it on Dracula, but to say I didn't enjoy the I'd be lying and ill even go as far as to say Luke Evans was pretty good on the part, for me story line was great, no complications or going around the circle, it was just straight to the point, but that old vamp guy in the cave even forgot his name, well not worth discussing and the special effects could've used a nudge up. Was actually a great idea to wait for the DVD, so if it's Friday, you ignoring some people, you bored and don't wanna go out, go grab the DVD if you haven't seen it, it's worth home entertainment.
