Review of Dracula (1958) by Wheng M — 30 Apr 2010
There is just something about a Horror movie shot in three strip technicolor that makes Horror beautiful. No Peter Cushing is not beautiful and certainly neither is Christopher Lee but while others find the day-glo red blood a turn off, I find it gratifying.
This was my first Hammer Studios film and the "studio that dripped blood" lived up to its lore. Christopher Lee is always a welcome bad guy and Peter Cushing showed us glimpses of his knack to play the lead detective (he would go on to play Sherlock in a BBC series) and brought all of his classical training to improve on his wonderful portrayal of Van Helsing.
PS what Son of Frankenstein was to Young Frankenstein. Horror of Dracula was to "Dracula Dead and Loving it".
