Review of Dracula (1958) by Jason M — 21 Jan 2009
I don't know if this is the "definitive" adaptation of Dracula, but it's certainly my favorite. Lee was never creepier or more bad-ass, and Peter Curshing is... Peter f*ckin Cushing. It's a very handsomely made production that evokes perfectly what the Dracula mythology is all about in 80 minutes. Only minor liability: Lee isn't in it quite enough, though Cushing takes up enough room to make it wonderful. Can't wait to see more Hammer!
PS: In case any of you wonder where Matthew Catania got the music for Filler! look no further. Matter of fact, it's pretty blatant, though in that Martin-Scorsese-used-music-awesomely way.
