Review of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) by Jason M — 31 Jan 2016
I don't get why this film is so critically acclaimed. It is not that funny. Peter Sellers is rather silly. It is not overly well acted. I hate stating this, because Stanley Kubrick is my favourite film-maker of all time and this is regarded as one of his greatest works. However, to me, Kubrick creates art, not simply films. This film is not art. I believe that critics' group-think has been good to this film's legacy. For example, music critics have long raved at how great The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds album is. Yet, I do not hear it's innovation or superiority over the rest of the Beach Boys discography...and likely they don't either!
There is so much more to Kubrick's legacy of masterpiece film-making than this silly film that is not that funny or groundbreaking. Don't believe the hype!
