Review of Dr. Plonk (2007) by Trent B — 22 Feb 2008
I saw this film at the Rome Cinemafest in October 2007. It's a silent film, with a beautiful instrumental soundtrack, heir of Charlie Chaplin's and Stanley and Oliver's tradition. A 2007 movie, but directed as a 20s film.
Characters have recognizable behaviours. Dr. Plonk is the candid scientist who "discovers" by chance the end of the world. Nobody believe him. So he builds a strange "time machine" helped by his faithful assistant, Paulus, who is mute and foolish.
Other characters are Mrs. Plonk, the fat housewife and Tiberius, the dog (the funniest character). I couldn't stop laughing at the end of the movie. The plot is so rich of comical inventions, different and unexpected.
